Glenn Miller's American Band Of The AEF - Glenn's Last Broadcasts Re-created - CD
In its wisdom the BBC did not retain any of the last three broadcasts which Major Glenn Miller recorded with his American Band of the AEF in Britain before it flew to Paris to entertain Allied troops on the Continent. However, we have very largely been able to re-construct these radio broadcasts. The only songs missing are 'I'm Gonna Sit Right Down And Write Myself A Letter', 'Good Enough To Keep (Air Mail Special)' and 'It Had To Be You'. The late Geoffrey Butcher, former Editor of the magazine of the Glenn Miller Appreciation Society, was adamant that Glenn Did not close the 8:30-9:00 pm broadcast of December 12th 1944 with 'Moonlight Serenade', but with 'Stompin' At The Savoy'. So we have included that song. After that broadcast there was a half hour concert at which the last number played was 'Tuxedo Junction'. So we have included that song as well. To find the songs on this CD we have tapped many sources. For example, the thrilling performance of 'Russian Patrol' was given in Paris in April 1945 with arranger Jerry Gray conducting the band. Jerry Gray also conducted the band when it played 'Oranges And Lemons' in October 1945 after it had returned to the U.S. Finally to obtain a recording of 'Sweet And Lovely' we had to go to the Strings With Wings of the Tex Beneke-Glenn Miller Orchestra in an AFRS On The Beam broadcast of February 1948.
